I was in my teens when my dad was diagnosed with diabetes. Fast forward and he developed two types of Cancer. Eventually, he succumbed to his disease at the age of 53. 53! Would my son, barely 3 at the time, remember his grandpa?
So when my husband John had a back injury that caused him severe pain for months, I worried.
Doctor’s appointments, rehabilitation, cortisone shots, experimental nerve shock therapy. Imagine your right leg looks like Hulk Hogan’s and your left looks like PeeWee Herman’s. Yeah, it’s like that!
Meanwhile, I was having my own drama. My sleep was broken, 2 hours here, maybe 3. I never slept through the night. I don’t nap, even when I’m sick. I would get a seasonal allergy head cold that would then turn into a full-blown sinus infection. Ugh! I missed Thanksgiving Dinner with family and friends because my cold morphed into bronchitis.
What was wrong with my body? It seemed as if I turned 30 and it decided to rebel against me! Where did that gray hair come from? Oh no another! Why is my hair starting to fall out?
Enter the Ketogenic Diet. Immediately we noticed the inflammation in our bodies was gone. John’s nightly terror screams became less frequent and then almost disappeared. My sleep is AMAZING! I mean wow! I actually sleep like the dead. Go to bed at 10, wake up at 5.
I can’t tell you enough how much sleep helps your body to reset, restore and refresh itself overnight! When your body is rested, you wake up feeling super energized and ready to take on the day and anything that it throws at you. Those gray hairs that were coming in have stopped, my hair is longer and stronger than it’s ever been. I feel like I could run a marathon now. But then I remember, I absolutely hate running! Unless it’s the Cupcake Truck, then I might pick up my pace!
